Cadishead Rhinos and Folly Lane produced a thrilling Valentine Cup game on Saturday where the result was in the balance right up to the final whistle in a game that had everything.
The Rhinos were the first on the scoreboard when Man of the Match Darren Hill scorched through the Folly defence and out paced the full back to go under the posts on 13 minutes. Mark Woodfine converted 6-0 to the Rhinos.
It was nip and tuck for the next 10 minutes before Folly Lane levelled the scores with an equally impressive try.
Cadishead upped their game and Wes Conheeney stretched over to score on 27 minutes. Woodfine was again successful 12-6 Rhinos. Folly responded by scoring 2 quick tries within a 10 minutes spell to give them a 12-18 lead.
The Rhinos missed the chance to reduce the arrears when they were awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time but Woodfine’s kick sailed wide.
The second half again saw both teams battle for supremacy and it was the Rhinos who were first to score on 49 minutes when hooker Martin Burgess crashed over.
Cadishead then took the lead shortly afterwards when Paul Elliott was the first to reach the ball from a chip through. Dave Keane missed the kick leaving the Rhinos with a narrow 20-18 lead.
The visitors regained the lead on 64 minutes with another converted try taking the scores to 20-24.
In a tense final 10 minutes Cadishead looked like they had clinched the win when Darren Hill scored his second try of the afternoon converted by Keane however Folly broke the Rhinos hearts with the final try of the afternoon on 77 minutes to clinch a hard fought victory.
